Schoology - Linking Sections
This article shows demonstrates how to link sections in Schoology.
When sections are linked, they share the same materials and grade setup. This allows course admins to create materials and set up the gradebook once. This is useful when one instructor is teaching multiple sections of the same course that use the same course materials. Linked sections can toggle between each section instantly, creating a more streamlined workflow by eliminating the need to navigate between multiple course shells.
Only course admins can link sections in Schoology, and the course admins of each section must be the same.
Linking Sections in Schoology
- In Schoology, click Courses tab in the top menu bar, then click the My Courses link in the upper-right corner of the drop-down Courses menu.
- Locate a course that has multiple sections (ex: TSA testing in the screenshot below).

- Click the gear icon to the right of the section you'd like to link other sections to (this section is known as the master section), and choose the Link Existing Sections option from the drop-down menu.

- In the Link Existing Section dialog box, tick the box(es) next to the section(s) you would like to link to the master section. These sections are known as children sections. When you've selected all children sections you'd like to link to the master section, click the Link Sections button.

It is best practice to link sections before the semester begins to prevent loss of grading data. When linking sections, you will be prompted to download the gradebook for the sections that are being linked.
