Zoom - Tips and Tricks for Instructors

This article goes over some of the tips and tricks we found that can be helpful for instructors using Zoom.

Tip 1

Every time you start using Zoom on a new machine, test your Audio and speakers prior to recording and/or live lecture.

Tip 2

If you are running a live lecture, encourage your students to login in 10 minutes early. That way if they have any technical issue they have some time to try to resolve them.

Tip 3

If you are planning on showing a video on your computer during a Zoom meeting you will have to click the checkbox “Share Computer Sound

Tip 4

If you are having trouble with students getting your information about your live lectures, you can send a full class email (Faculty Portal) and a Schoology Update. If you are more familiar with Schoology we recommend creating an Ungraded Assignment with a Due Date of the beginning of the live lecture.

Tip 5

If you have a large class and want to take Zoom Attendance, you will have to change a setting in the Zoom website (not Desktop App) to “Require Registration” before the lecture starts. Once the room is closed you can use the Retrieve Excel File Article to get the list out of Zoom and into Excel.
