Zoom - Closed Captions for Meetings

This document will show you how to enable closed captions for your Zoom meeting.

Note: Zoom's automated closed captions do not meet the requirements for captions as an accommodation. If your video is being recorded for re-use, you will still need to submit the video to the IAL for captioning. Please see Creating and submitting an Instructional Video for Closed Captioning for instructions.

Setting up Closed Captions (One-Time Setup)

  1. Navigate to https://swtc.zoom.us/profile/setting and sign in with your NetID if you are not already logged in.

  2. Scroll down to the "In Meeting (Advanced)" section and toggle the "Closed captioning" setting so the toggle is blue.

  3. Check the "Enable live transcription service to show transcript on the side panel in-meeting" box.

  4. Click "Save".

Enabling Closed Captions in a Meeting (Host)

  1. When you are hosting a meeting, click the "CC/Live Transcript" button, then click “Enable Auto-Transcription” on the pop-up box.

  2. Transcriptions will begin being generated. Audio from both the host, and participants, will be transcribed.

Closed Captioning Settings (Participants)

When Closed Captions are turned on by the host, participants will have "CC/Live Transcript" button. The host may also change these settings, but it will only affect their screen and not the particpants.
