This article was created to assist instructors transition to Online delivery March 20 – April 6th.

With the recent announcement to cancel classes and transition to Online delivery March 20 – April 6th the IAL department is reaching out to help anyone who needs additional support to take their classes virtual. We have set aside Room 205 for Instructors who will be coming to campus next week.
If you are not coming to campus 3/16 – 3/20 you can reach out to me to schedule a Zoom meeting where we can talk over the steps moving forward. We have created Schoology Graded Items (Assignments, Discussions, Test/Quizzes) that are available in the “Southwest Tech Standard Template” group under the “Pre-made Graded Items”. Note: You will have to “Import from Resources

If your students are not familiar with submitting assignments, taking tests etc. there are practice (Orientation) items that are available in the "Southwest Tech Standard Template" group under the "Orientation" folder.

Some of the changes that you may need to make are:

If no pre-existing materials will work to supplement your course the IAL department can help you create your own videos but due to the situation we are hoping that most instructors will be able to find pre-existing videos to include in their courses.
If you do want to create your own videos, the directions below will help you submit them for closed captioning/inclusion in Schoology.

Academic Integrity

If you are concerned with cheating here are a few things that we have that can help (If you would like to know more please don’t hesitate to reach out!!!)

Lockdown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor works with Schoology exams as a separate browser to do two things. First is to lock the student into the browser for testing.  It will not allow them to open another tab, browser, email, etc. to search for a test answer.  Secondly, it uses the student’s webcam to record them during the test.  It will flag any parts of the video that seem suspicious for the instructor to review after. Setup information for instructors and students can be found here:  https://web.respondus.com/he/monitor/resources/
Please reach out with any questions.  IAL staff are happy to help you get this setup.
Respondus is currently offering daily training webinars as well.  The webinar schedule can be found here:  http://respondus.com/webinars

Random Questions in Test/Quiz

In the Settings Tab of any Test/Quiz in Schoology allows us to randomize the order in which the questions appear to each student as well as in each question we can randomize the order of responses.

Turnitin

Is a tool that checks for originality of submitted assignments, encouraging students to submit their own work and deter anyone from copying. It is integrated with Schoology and we can show instructors how to include this in their courses (Add Materials -> File/Link/External Tool -> External Tool -> Turnitin)

ADDITIONAL ITEMS TO CONSIDER:

Technical Issues

o    Students and Instructors who experience technical issues should contact the Help Desk

Students who have Disability Services Accommodations

o  Extending Test/Quiz times for students with Accommodations

Communication is key to executing successful Academic Continuity.

o    Using the LMS and Video options will allow the college to continue with uninterrupted delivery of courses.
