VPN - Best Practices
This document outlines best practices when working remotely.
1. If you are experiencing
issues with your laptop, we recommend restarting the machine as a first
resort. If problems continue after that, please contact the Charger Helpdesk.
2. Please follow this guide to connect to the VPN when possible (If you need assistance connecting, please contact the Charger Helpdesk).
We realize that some cellular data connections (hotspots) don’t provide
enough bandwidth and we’ll work with you in those situations. The VPN
provides protection and access to the campus network. In addition, it is
a communication method for your computer to verify all updates are
current.
3. After connecting to the VPN, refer to step 6 in the aforementioned guide to regain access to your network drives.
4. If you are prompted to reboot to install security patches, please do so to help protect your computer. You will only see this reboot notification (pictured below) if you are connected to the VPN and have received updates. Additionally, you may receive an email from ITS, prompting you to restart because security patches are required.
